The National Liberation Party of Unity (PAPERNAS)
The Preparatory Committee for the National Liberation Party of Unity (KP-Papernas) was launched in Jakarta on July 23, 2006. Initiated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PRD), the Indonesian National Front for Labour Struggle (FNPBI), the People's Cultural Work Network (Jaker), the National Student League for Democracy (LMND), the National Farmers Union (STN) and the Urban Poor Union (SRMK), Papernas is currently seeking registration to contest the 2009 general elections.
The National Liberation Party of Unity (PAPERNAS) is an alliance or front of mass organisations, trade unions, peasant organisations, student groups, women’s organisations, artist groups and individuals that want to see change in Indonesia. This alliance or front represents a pre-party formation that will participate in the 2009 general elections.
The joint platform or basis of these organizations unity is a struggle to liberate ourselves from foreign economic domination that brings suffering to the Indonesian people and to build an alternative economic and political system that is independent and bring
prosperity to the Indonesian nation
Papernas held its founding congress on 18-20 January in Yogyakarta, Central Java, in which it elected Agus Jabo Priyono as chairperson, Haris Sitorus as general secretary and prominent trade union leader Dita Indah Sari as its candidate for the presidential elections.
Attended by 370 people from 23 provinces, the congress discussed the national political situation, which they said is experiencing a deepening influence of neoliberalism and the failure of the present government to solve the basic problems confronting the nation. The congress also officially endorsed the party’s Three Banners of National Unity for the Welfare for the People
