How safe are your cosmetics? Research suggests that of the more than 80,000 chemicals that have entered the market since 1976, only about 200 have been tested by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Neither cosmetic products nor cosmetic ingredients are reviewed or approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The unregulated cosmetics industry has publicly assessed only 11 percent of the 10,500 ingredients in personal care products.
Nonprofit health and environmental organizations work hard to protect the health of consumers by requiring the personal care products industry to phase out the use of chemicals linked to cancer, birth defects and other serious health concerns, and replace them with safer alternatives.
They also identify the safest products. Yet, once identified, it is often difficult to locate and purchase these safe items. Many of them are discontinued.
It is out of my own experience and frustration in not finding products that I spent time identifying, I have decided to create this web site to make your shopping easier. This site list only safe cosmetics that are currently available on Amazon.com.
