This website exists to faciliate the grand movement towards non-proprietary sounds, samples, loops, songs, recordings and musical compositions in the public domain. This "free and open" movement was - to a great degree - started in the world of free software and has since been growing into many other areas including music and art.
Those who come to Free the Sounds come for a variety of reasons. 1) To share their sonorous creations with all, manifesting a higher understanding of the importance of freedom through collaboration for all humans. 2) To collaborate from anywhere in the world with Internet access by creating groups within the portal and communicating with each other by exchanging samples, loops, recordings, patches, etc. 3) To download music that is free and open for their listening pleasure, knowing the artists create this music for mutual enjoyment. 4) To gather snippets of sounds and loops to use in the music-creation process.
