Mission Statement and DisclaimerI live in North Carolina. My political views are liberal or progressive, and I am very much pro-woman. I believe in equality for all people. You will see these values reflected in my writing. The selected postings of my memoir (see beginning of blog) are based on actual events in my life. In some cases, names and places have been altered to protect the identities of the parties involved. As with most memoirs, time has been compressed and certain events are listed out of sequence. Sexually SpeakingWell, if that title didn’t catch your attention, nothing will. It’s true that we live in a sexually saturated society. We’re faced with it everywhere - on TV, in movies, books, magazines, on the Internet, and even on public billboards. Still, sex hasn’t been a topic that I’ve talked much about, mainly because I think it’s a personal topic that is best shared between intimate partners. But it seems like there are people out there who are curious about my sexuality, so brace yourselves, because I’m getting ready to tell you a few things about myself. Hopefully, you didn’t have any childhood encounters with sex. If you did, you suffered greatly, had a lot of shame and confusion, and were afraid to tell anyone about the abuse. After all, you were a child, and if you grew up in the 70's or earlier, you were to be seen and not heard. I’m glad that some of that mentality has disappeared, but the fact remains that childhood sexual abuse tends to leave scars that manifest later in one’s sex life. Scary Dave on GossipThis is one insightful guy. I believe Scary Dave is correct when he sings that people who gossip have a lot of self-hatred inside themselves. By cynthia at 10/03/2008 - 12:20am | cynthia's blog
The King of Kool AidI find it slightly amusing that fundamentalists joke about Oprah’s viewers willingly drinking toxic Kool Aid when most of them only get their news from the Fox News channel. Come on, people. Fox News is the king of toxic Kool Aid. If you want to spread hate and division, keep watching the conservative spin doctors at work. By the way, have you ever noticed that word conservative begins with the letters CON? A coincidence? Any semi-enlightened person will tell you that there's no such thing. Youtuber, The Liberal Viewer, has composed a play list that highlights the clever and deceptive tactics of this so-called news channel. If you’re interested, check it out. You Might Be A Sociopath IF....You have and post under many, many screen names on any one site, since your main intention is to deceive others. You pretend to be other people because you don’t know who you really are. You have no or little identity of your own. You get joy in picking on people who aren’t your own size. You out-right lie in order to hurt someone else. You twist other people’s words in order to make them look bad to other people. You’re two-faced and sneaky – a snake in the grass. You manipulate and intentionally mislead people (then call them a fool or sucker behind their backs). Scary DaveThis is another Youtuber worth mentioning. Scary Dave might have a potty mouth, but he's full of wisdom. He's also edgy, raw, funny, and insightful. (Warning: if you don't like him - he doesn't care and he will tell you so.) Think equality, not superiorityI once made a comment about sharing a message with the world on the palm of your hand. While this isn’t my actual hand in the photo, this is a message I’d like to share with others. I’m not a competitive person by nature; nor do I like being around overly competitive people. What’s fun about being around someone who always has to “out-do” you? Their relentless drive will eventually turn off friends, family, colleagues, neighbors, etc. By cynthia at 09/19/2008 - 2:07pm | cynthia's blog | read more
Thought for the DayAs Wall Street continues to take hits, more and more people are going to have to ask themselves who they are outside of their money-making ventures. It will be a bittersweet journey for many. Those who get back in touch with their soul will survive. Those who don't...might not. There's a danger in letting money become one's God. ~Cynthia By cynthia at 09/18/2008 - 4:33pm | cynthia's blog
How Much Longer?Thank you, readers. I appreciate the 300,000 hits you've given me over the last 16 weeks. I sometimes wonder how much longer this blog can go on. The answer might be found in a Michael Jackson song... The blog will end when I get tired of blogging. But right now, the Force is with me, pushing me along. Here is the Michael Jackson song if you'd like to hear it. (I would post the video, but embedding has been disabled by request.) By cynthia at 09/17/2008 - 10:00pm | cynthia's blog | read more
Telling Light From DarknessA rabbi asked his students, "When, at dawn, can one tell the light from the darkness?" One student replied, "When I can tell a goat from a donkey." "No," answered the rabbi. Another said, "When I can tell a palm tree from a fig." "No," answered the rabbi again. "Well, then, what is the answer?" his students pressed him. "Not until you look into the face of every man and every woman and see your brother and sister," said the rabbi. "Only then have you seen the light. All else is still darkness."
