We know that to date the only scientifically known method of extending maximum lifespan is through caloric restriction without malnutrition.

What's interesting is that a landmark study has shown that supplementing with resveratrol (grapeseeds extract) has a very similar gene expression with caloric restriction.  In the experiment, calorie restriction reduced 90% of the gage-related alteration s in gene expression, and resveratrol mitigated 92% of such changes.

This result means that we should be very serious about supplementing with resveratrol as a regular daily supplementation.

In Life Extension Magazine - Super Sale 2006 issue, an article was about "The Misunderstood Vitamin."  In the article, it quoted scientific experiments concluding that vitamin K is needed for the bone to absorb calcium.  Without vitamin K deficiency, taking calcium supplements only causes the calcium to deposit on the arterial wall.

On the other hand, if you go to surf WebMD, another authoritative source, you may run into this article, "Vitamin K: No help for Bone Density."  It quoted a large scale research conducted by the Toronto's Health Network demonstrating bone density scan of a large group of women after 2 years and after 4 years shows no difference between sub-group taking K from that not taking K.

Who should we believe?

The YBM's philosophy is that if you're eating healthy, having multi-vitamin and minerals supplementation, in most cases in a developing country, you're not calcium or vitamin K deficient.  What leach the calcium out of the bone is due to the imbalance of your body pH. Typically, we are very acidic.  Metabolic functions create acidity and most modern foods we eat are acidic forming.  As a result, overtime, our body is deprived of its own alkaline buffer - the ability to nuetralize the acidity.  When this happens, the body either has to get calcium help from the bones - losing bone density, or deposite the acid in the joints and fats.  The best way to deal with this is through YBM Diet - eating alkaline formine foods and drinking alkaline water.

In the new book, Testosterone for Life, Harvard Doctor, Abraham Morgentaler, wrote about the myth of testosterone replacement and prostate cancer.  It is a landmark book detailing the history of scientific discovery and the implication to male hormone replacement.  Below is a summary of my reading of the book:

Early in this century, Dr. Charles Huggins' Nobel prize winning experiments showed that castration or injection of estrogen can cure or prevent prostate cancer.  Since that time, the standard education of medicine has been that testosterone is bad for the prostate. Therefore, male hormone replacement therapy can be risky.

After over 65 years, recently, new scientific discover has shown just the opposite: 1. Low blood levels of testosterone do not protect against prostate cancer, and actually may increase the risk.  2. High testosterone level do not increase the risk of prostate cancer.  3. HRT does not increase the risk even among men who are already at high risk of prostate cancer.  4. For men who have prostate cancer, and are given drugs to drop their testosterone level to near zero, administrating testosterone might increase the risk of residual cancer to start to grow.

The reason to completely overturn the old Nobel prize winning theory is due to the incomplete statistical significance of the original experiments, thus drawing the wrong conclusion.

One very important concept, uniquely to YBM Hormone protocol, still ignored by most physicians and hormone doctors, including Dr. Morgentaler's analysis, is that hormone levels are very individual dependent.  Good statistics can give good generalized results.  However, when giving hormone replacement therapy to an individual, it's a totally different matter.

During the last annual physical, I was shocked to test high in trans fat. I eat super healthy.

Upon investigation, I finally zoomed to a few boxes of very delicious oil-free, salt-free walnuts that a friend of mine sent to me. Once I get started with these walnuts, I could not stop. They are delicious and crispy. It would not take much time for me to consume a box. I knew I should not eat too much nuts at one time because its calories. However, my excuse was at least it's healthily cooked.

Well, as I dig deeper, I wondered why I am not so addicted to the home roasted raw walnuts. It does not taste that great. The meat is more oily (non-crispy) and bitter. I suddenly realized that to make the delicious nuts crispy, the manufacturer has to put the nuts through high temperature drying process. Oils, especially polyunsaturated oils may oxidize and hydrogenate under really high temperatures.

So be careful about oils (such as nuts) under high temperature.

Indeed, nature makes foods that naturally limit your appetite. Human learned to process delicious unhealthy foods that can greatly increase your appetite.

In YBM, we have introduced to our members in YBM Diet a few wonder seeds, flaxseed, wheatgerm, chia, quinoe, black sesame, as replacement to common starchy carbohydrates such as rice and wheat flours and their cooked products (steam rice, bread, etc.).  In our online Coach, we also showed videos and recipes of how to eat these wonder seeds.

In our continuing research for wonder seeds, we are glad that hempseed passed our high criteria as a wonder seed.  So now we recommend to add hempseed into our shopping list for the first time.  Here is a good article about the nutritional value of hempseed.

I had a few difficult cases of young and middle aged patients who had severe acnes.  It's been for a while that we used different treatments that are not very effective, either no impact, or causing too much irritation and redness on the face.

Then I ran into an acne solution called Cutisal-2 Acne Control Treatment, using peptide technology, invented by Dr. Chanda Raveri, a molecular biologist, geneticist, protege to two time Nobel Laureate Dr. Linus Pauling, and a pioneer of peptide technologies.  I used it on these patients.  Within 2-5 days, their faces were clear and glowing.  They were so happy.

Thought it'd be good to let YBMers know about this solution.

By the way, we also interviewed Dr. Raveri.  You may see the video here.

I had the honor to present during the China Anti-aging conference to a broad spectrum of scientists and practitioners - introducing our state of the art anti-aging program, YBM Life!  The reception was very warm and welcoming.

I'd like to make the presentation available to www.youngbodymind.com members.  You may read the presentation by clicking this link.
