GTYNP: Final Fantasy VIII - Blue Fields

ffviii3.jpgJust to prove that I'm not dead, I decided to post up a long overdue Greatest Tab You've Never Played. For those of you who don't know, this is where I post up a relatively unknown tab in hopes that it will receive some recognition from those who missed it.

This time I'm posting Stamen47's arrangement of "Blue Fields" from Final Fantasy VIII. Now when I say arrangement, I really mean arrangement. Stamen takes a lot of creative liberty in this piece and really turns it into something that sounds amazing on guitar. It's a little bit difficult to play, but not too hard to get the hang of. Great job Stamen.

Take a look at the side by side comparison between the original Blue Fields midi and Stamen47's arrangement. Or just view the tab.

New Feature: Favorites Lists

I know there's been a whole bunch of little issues cropping up all over the place since I upgraded the site, which I'm working on, but I figured that while I sort everything out I might as well give you guys something which has been a long awaited feature of the site (and in fact made possible only by the recent upgrades).

So without further ado, I present Favorites Lists!!! :D :D :D =0 <3 <3 *-* o_0 <(O-O)>

You'll notice under your "My account" link is a "My favorites" link. This is where your very own, personalized, unique and special list of favorite tabs goes. To add a tab to your favorites list, all you have to do is click the "Add to favorites" link, which now appears on every tab below the five star rating (this location will most likely change in the near future). You can seemlessly add and remove tabs from your list there, as well as remove them straight from the list itself. Tabs will be sorted alphabetically by game first, then by title of the song. You can favorite as many tabs as you wish. Now have at it =D

New Layout, woo... hoo?

I had hoped to write a more cheerful message when I got this layout up, but unfortunately I ran into a few issues while doing so. I also attempted to upgrade a bunch of stuff as well as switch to a new forum software (and hopefully resolve the login issues that so many of you have been having), and long story short, I've simply run into some unexpected problems that have prevented a good portion of the site from being functional, for now.

The good news is that all the tabs and categories are up, as well as ratings and comments. But the forum and recordings section are gonna be down for now, and some things are just a little out of whack. Once again I chose to make major upgrades to the site late at night, and once again I run into issues that need a good night sleep to resolve. So I apologize for coming up short this time, but just sit tight, everything will be back soon better than ever.

***UPDATE*** Recordings section now back online.

***UPDATE 2*** Added links to category pages on Browse Tabs menu.

***UPDATE 3*** Add Latest Transcriptions and Latest Arrangements menus to the front page. Now you can view the latest tabs broken out into arrangements and transcriptions.

***UPDATE 4*** Added Top Rated Tabs page.

***UPDATE 5*** Forum is back up, as well as user profiles.

Recordings Section Now Open to Submissions

I've reconfigured the Recordings section so that authenticated users can now submit recordings without sending them to me first. If you're logged in, all you have to do is click the "Create Content" on the left sidebar under your personal block. Then click "Recording" and you will be taken to a recording submission form. From there, you can follow the instructions and submit a recording to the site yourself. Make sure you follow the directions carefully, and remember that right now I am only allowing YouTube videos to be submitted.

For now, I will let all submissions go through without approval, because I think you all can handle this on your own :) But if there are problems, I'll make it so the recordings have to but approved before they go up.

A quick overview of how to submit a recording:

1) Click "Create Content"
2) Click "Recording"
3) Enter a title for the recording.
4) Enter the YouTube video ID of the recording.
5) Optionally enter a link to a tab for the song being played.
6) Optionally enter some comments about the video.

In addition to being able to create new videos, you'll also be able to edit and delete any recordings you create, and I've applied proper permissions to all recordings submitted in the past, so you can edit and delete them as well. All you need is a registered account on the site and you can add as many recordings as you want. Have fun :).

If there are any problems, questions, concerns, etc., please post them in this topic in the forum.

New layout, w00t

Well, I just put up the new layout after having worked on it for quite some time. I know there are quite a few issues to be worked out, especially in the forum. I need to figure out exactly where I'm gonna put ads and some other things, and there's a bunch of little incomplete areas around the site. But I've been debugging issues for the last 3 hours and I have just lost the will power to go on. Time for me to hit the hay.

Revamped Recordings Section

I've made a lot of changes to the recordings section. You'll notice it looks a lot different, and there are now YouTube thumbnails for every recording (well most of them). From now on I'm only allowing YouTube videos to be submitted as recordings. No MP3's or anything else.

The good thing is that you can now submit your own recordings to the site, without sending them to me. Just go to Create Content on your user name link on the left sidebar, and fill out the Recording submission form. Make sure you get the YouTube video ID.

There's a lot of bugs and what not that I need to work out but I'm so tired right now, I'll take care of them later. Enjoy.

***UPDATE***

I'm temporarily disabling the ability for people to create new recordings. I found some issues that I didn't think about and I need to figure out how to solve them before I can restore recording creation ability. Sorry.

GTYNP: Metal Gear Solid - Main Theme

Here's a tab that I really love and I don't think has gotten a whole lot of notoriety from the community. It's the main theme of Metal Gear Solid, arranged by cgseth. This is a really uplifting song that I felt fitted the game very well. It translates very nicely to guitar and I think it's a great arrangement.

GTYNP: Pokemon Gold/Silver: Ecruteak City

The guitar is mainly a solo instrument. But Zelos' arrangment for 3 guitars for Ecruteak city brings three guitars together in a very fun and lovable piece that would sound great in a concert hall.

Sadly I wish I could find two other guitarists to play this with. Perhaps I can convince Zelos to make a solo or at least duet version of it. Great job Zelos!

Over 1,000 tabs and still growing!

Thanks to the hard work of so many gametabs has broken the 1,000 tab mark. Great work guys! Let's keep it up and move on to the next 1,000.

Might Be Forced to Shut Down

It was an April Fools joke... we're not really shutting down =P

I have some sad news to report today. I just received a letter in the mail from Nintendo of America, Inc. saying that they have been monitoring this site for some time, and have gathered a great amount of evidence of intellectual property rights violations for distributing "unlicensed" music notation and MP3 files. Essentially it's a cease and desist order, which means that if I don't shut down the site they will take further legal action on me.

I've already contacted a lawyer of my own to see what my options are about this whole thing. I realize it's just me against a mega-corporation like Nintendo, but I can't let this thing go without a fight and I'm going to explore every legal possibility before I take the site down.
