Will BRTS solve city's public transport woes?
May 12th, 2008 | posted by AnjaliNAGPUR: Even though the population of Nagpur has crossed 35 lakh the city is yet to have a decent public transport system. The city bus service, which was never upto the mark, has become worse due to differences between Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) and Nagpur Municipal Corporation's (NMC's) private bus operator.
MSRTC had been repeatedly asking NMC to take over the city bus service as it was running in heavy loss.

The craze among the students to hold the sophisticated weapons in hand was to be seen to be believed. Students, all in the age-group of 5-14 years, also participated in an interactive session with the senior officers, especially assistant commissioner of police Anil Bobade. The students came to know how a police station functions.
Crackdown on rash bikers

This group of motorcycle 'enthusiasts' had made it a habit of showing off their dangerous motorcycling skills, and sometimes indulging in eve-teasing on this stretch favoured by morning walkers.
Major I-T raid on business house

The group has interests in a slew of businesses, from coal services, healthcare, education to information technology. Nair Coal is the flagship company, of which Udaybhaskar Nair is the chairman and Suresh Nair is vice-chairman.
Gold sales dip 25% on Akshaya Tritiya

In fact, compared to last year, gold purchases dipped by over 25% this year. The saving grace was good demand from southern states and a new trend of buying gold on the auspicious day in the north, which helped prevent a bigger dip in sales, feel experts.

Nagpur 'safe' for MH-CET

This year, over 4,000 students from outside the state are appearing for the exam at the Nagpur centre. Usually only around 100-200 students appear for the all-India quota from the Nagpur centre.
Nagpur-Singapore flight by mid-April

Low cost airline Air-India Express has proposed to connect Nagpur with Singapore via Kolkata-Bangkok by mid-April this year. Singapore follows four other international destinations connected to Nagpur; following Sharjah (Air Arabia), Doha (Qatar Airways), Dubai (Air India Express) and Bangkok (Air India).
Mercury hits 5-year high
April 30th, 2008 | posted by AnjaliNAGPUR: The mercury, at 45.2 degrees Celsius, soared to a new five-year high for the month of April on Tuesday. This was four degrees above normal. The record eclipsed the 45.1 degrees registered on April 30 last year.
Nagpur's temperature would be the highest in India on Tuesday "if we go by figures available till 10 pm", met department sources said.
