Joshua Tree (Eastside)

Do you want to dance with somebody? Maybe feel the heat with somebody? Well, look no further than the Joshua Tree (Eastside). You can hear fabulous tunes just like Whitney's, making this bar an exciting place to be. I love the 80s!
There are lots of plasma televisions set up that play the music videos of these old time tunes. And a few even play Sportscenter, in true sports bar fashion. With 12 satellite TV systems, you can watch your favorite sports teams play at all times.
There are two bars - one in the front and one in the back, which is great to alleviate some of the bar-goer traffic. From Tuesdays to Sundays there's a DJ after 8pm and Sundays also entail karaoke after 9. But you're sure to start your very own karaoke session at any point with the loud sounds of this great music!
This is the Eastside counterpart to the Westside location. Located on Third Avenue, amongst a string of bars, the Joshua Tree is certainly one of the most hopping places to be on the weekend. It does tend to get rather crowded and warm at times, though, so watch out for that. But with the pumping music of nostalgic tunes you'll certainly want to dance with more than somebody who loves you at the Joshua Tree.

Girl's Day at the Spa-Exhale
There are a lot of mainstream spas in the Chicago area, like the Red Door (Elizabeth Arden) and various others, but a lot of us (okay, most of us) don't have Elizabeth Arden money all the time. There are, however, a few great places in Chicago where you can be pampered like a princess without having to spend like one.
One spa I've visited, called Exhale (945 N. State St) is right in the neighborhood of the Gold Coast (Oak and State) and has a lot more to offer than just the regular manicures and pedicures. This spa is also a major place for yogis to hang out, take classes, buy their yoga goodies and relax.
There are many workshops and events at this spa, and many spa packages to choose from with reasonable prices. You can have a full spa day for under $300 here, compared to as much as $500 at other spas around Chicago. This locale, designed to look like a temple and designed for yoga and pilates-style classes, is accessed through an antique 200-year-old door from Indonesia, and the 16 Zen-inspired therapy rooms are wrapped in translucent panels embedded with beach grass and soothing fabric panels. An appointed meditation lounge is available, and changing rooms with showers, steam, and lockers are provided for guest use.

Wax Poetic Salon

For those valley-dwellers who are obsessive about being able to multi-task even when out of work, you will be in love with Wax Poetic Salon in Burbank. Where else can you get your hair done, your back massaged, and your bikini-line waxed all while taking in an art show and downing a complimentary cocktail. Well, thanks to Wax Poetic Salon, it’s possible. While initially the idea of a salon being connected to an art gallery may confuse you, from the moment you step in to the salon you see exactly why this works. The lobby is essentially the art gallery which includes a wonderfully stocked bar with alcohol and E-lix-r Tonics. I mean, come on, how many times can you read a Cosmo while waiting to be waxed? It’s so much more fun to be drinking a free glass of Stella on tap while perusing the modern art from local artists. And when it’s time to get the hair ripped from your eyebrows, you’re a little more relaxed and feel as though you got in a little culture in the process. They carry a large array of products which artfully line the walls in the front lobby and have multiple hair stations and a few very clean rooms for waxing and massage. Not only is the space incredibly warm and inviting, but the staff at Wax Poetic are extremely friendly and really fantastic at what they do. My hair and brows have never looked better. And, even though they shower you with free drinks, the prices are really competitive. But, don’t take my word for it - rev up the Hybrid and scoot your butt over there.

McFadden's - New York City Irish Pub

For some post-college fun, McFadden's is a definite must. The Irish pub promises a great time for any night, especially one that you want to end with a bang. You'll find professionals unwinding at the end of a long week and others just looking for a good time. There are lots of people still left at the end of the night (4am on weekends). And the music is always pumpin' with typical bar music and current tunes. From time to time, you'll even find the occasional dancing on bars and such. The only thing is that it does, in fact, get crowded around midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. But it's certainly a good time.
It's perfectly separated, with a dance area in front of the DJ booth, areas by the bar to sit or stand, and a side area where there are tables and big screen TVs, showing the latest sports game or ESPN roundup. There's also another area in the back (usually reserved for private parties) with a smaller bar. When there's not a party you can get back there easily and usually get more attention from the bartender. For good music, an entertaining crowd, and a good time, definitely check out McFadden's!
