This is a thumbnail image of the Apple Store Solihull. Obviously not full size, because that would be just plain silly. Hopefully, they have more customers than this.Join us for our second meeting at the Solihull Apple Store where we will be having a guided tour of Logic Express and Pro, Apple's industry standard audio editing and creation suite.

If you are a musician and have a carry-able instrument bring it along with you and plug in to the demo!

The meeting will be followed by a visit to Pizza Hut where will be making use of their facilities.

Venue: Apple Store, Touchwood Centre (Solihull)

Note that parking is available for £1.50 (all evening after 6pm) in the underground touchwood car park.

See you there!

Some of you may know about my Drupal addiction - Drupal is the web site content management system we use for the MMUG site. Also, some of you have expressed an interest in knowing more about it.

Drupal runs on OS X as well as Linux, so perhaps this isn't completelyoff topic. So, MMUG members might well be interested in this meeting, and are welcome to come!

Venue: Trilby's New Studio

Cost: £2 per person (includes wifi + coffee/tea/cold drinks)

It's a completely open meeting, no experience with Drupal necessary. For the obsessive Drupalistas, bring your partners so that you can prove that you're not the only one. :-)

Although not mandatory that you sign up, it would be helpful for you to visit, register and sign up at on the event I've added at the UK Drupal Group so we get an idea of numbers:

(after registering and joining the UK group, you can click the signup button)

Any other questions, please feel free to ask away. Looking forward to seeing you there!

A thumbnail screen shot from my iPhone's SwirlyMMS settings. Your mileage may vary.It took quite a bit of fiddling, but here are the settings I used with SwirlyMMS to send/receive MMS messages via my non-iPhone O2 contract. Click the thumbnail for a better view.

I found this page at the swirly site only got me partly there. I also needed the APN, Username and Password stuff which I'd found in the process of trying to figure why EDGE didn't work on my iPhone - that was due to me NOT having the data bolt-on package.

iPhones are not the only fruit...

With the Mac community currently caught up in the seemingly endless hype and speculation surrounding the iPhone, it is easy to forget that there are other smartphones out there that have been providing all the same functionality that the iPhone provides, and a whole lot more, for the last few years.

Aside from the always-exquisite Apple industrial design and the slick multitouch interface, the iPhone's dirty little secret is that it offers nothing new over phones available three or four years earlier - Symbian-based smartphones such as the Sony Ericsson P910i, or a plethora of Windows Mobile based devices.

Currently, anyone who wants a 3G wireless connection, or true GPS, or the ability to connect to a wide range of Bluetooth peripherals, or to run third party software without hacking their phone must look to other devices, many of which run some variant of the Windows Mobile OS, currently at version 6.  read more »

The results are in from this year's competition and are listed below. You can see the photos in their full glory on the Mac Users UK web site. No winners from MMUG this year, but you can still see the photo our own Errol Brown submitted which won the Grand First Prize for 2007.  read more »

Screenshot from Ben's iPhone using "ScreenShot"Well it seems the iPhone is a resounding success. Loads of them have shipped and with the new development opportunities opening up from apple (see iPhone developer site) things can only get better.

I was sceptical at first and I wouldn't have got my iPhone except a colleague, (thanks Gavin) was over in New York and managed to get me a 4GB one for what ended up being about £160. Now I'm totally hooked. Not only does it do phone calls, but I can browse, play podcasts and you know the rest. If not have a look here.

So with an American phone supplied with an AT&T SIM card how have I got it working over here?

Well since the launch, folks have been hard at work hacking the way the phone works. Those clever l33t people have consistently managed to break away at Apple's locking techniques, most notably is ziphone.org. They provide a free tool to unlock a phone for use on any network in any country.  read more »

I had a go at producing a diagram using Gliffy. It was free and I thought it would be a worthwhile thing to try for sharing network diagrams. What do you think?
