Drupal Sites FAQ

Q: What is this site about?
A: DrupalSites.net is a directory that lists websites powered by the open source content management system Drupal. We hope to demonstrate the flexibility of this CMS by listing all the different sites out there.

Please do not submit sites not powered by Drupal. All new additions will be moderated.

Q: Which sites can be added?
A: You may add any site currently powered by open source content management system Drupal.

However, it is not in our policy to list sites with excessive adult, inflammatory or abusive content.

Q: How do I add my site?
A: Register an account with DrupalSites.net (it's absolutely free) and add your weblink from create content navigation menu on the right.

You may use your Drupal.org login information or login info from your own site if you have drupal.module enabled.

Q: How do I add a picture to my weblink?
A: You may attach a screenshot or logo of your site by attaching a .jpg / .gif / .png file not bigger than 150x150px. To have it added to the description (body) just follow the instructions when submitting your weblink.

Q: What do I do if you do not have any category for my site to be listed in?
A: Please submit your opinon as a comment to this blog. If it is a reasonable request and the suggested category may host many sites of a kind it will be added ASAP.

Q: Why some sites are featured on the front page? How can I have mine listed there?
A: Sites promoted to the front page (featured sites) are the editors' choice. To be promoted your site has to be nice in terms of design, concept and maintenance.

Q: There is a very nice Drupal site which is not listed but it's not mine... can I submit it?
A: Of course! Please do submit more Drupal sites!

Q: I've created account (logged in) with drupal.org (or my own site) credentials and now I can't login or modify my post. What to do?
A: This is a known issue unfortunately. It happens because of some miscommunication with drupal.org authentication service or network issues. There is no pattern for this error so it's almost impossible to fix.

Solution: you can wait for some time and try to login again or you can create local account at drupalsites.net and we'll transfer your posts to this new account. Just let us know if you'll choose this way.

Comments:

I am new to website design. The organization I work for has a site that was created using Civic space. I understand that civicspace is a derivation of Drupal and that many Drupal modules function with Civicspace. Is this accurate, and if so, can I list our site on the Drupalsites.net

Yes of course. Civicspace is absolutely fine.

From the FAQ:

"However, it is not in our policy to list sites with excessive adult, inflammatory or abusive content."

But you DO have an "Adult/Escort" category.

Had a couple of my sites listed, but since one of my customers found her site listed next to "Pornsaints" and had a fit, I've taken them both off.

Pornsaints.org has not adult content or nudity inside. Please, look better before judging...

Bullshit. Francesco, you're an idiot!

From their site:

(Disclaimer: Some artworks may contain nudity. If you are under 18 or you hate portraits of naked ladies, please go away.)

It looks like "soft porn" at most and is not just provocative for the sake of being provocative. It focuses on the people on and behind the screens.

While I wouldn't show it to my mother, I wouldn't call it a pornography site. I doubt if very many teenagers would find it exciting more exciting than a Sears catalog or if any would prefer it to Playboy.

But that is my feeling. Losing a client over it may be frustrating but it would mean one of the two don't fit into your marketing niche. Sounds like you have to make some hard decisions. Limit your clients or limit the places you showcase it.

No need to call people names! LOL!

The DrupalSites.net's aim is to represent *different* Drupal powered sites. The other side of this idea is to be absolutely neutral to content, country, language or religious matters. So the note about exactly excessive this and that tells it all.

But anyway. If you do not like to be close to somebody in the list there are few ways though:

1. You can wait for few more posts before submit your own.
2. Submit your site now and contact the admin. We'll do the best to move you to another position.

What are the tolerances for excessive adult or inappropriate content. i.e. how far can one push the boundaries with a website before it becomes unlistable or inappropriate?

I guess that would be swearing a lot, content would include explicit photos and the content would include potentially offensive materials and topics such as racist and soon.

This is a great site, and a useful resource for people deciding whether to use Drupal for their project or looking for ideas on what our favorite can do.

But why is it set up so that neither the teasers nor the full listings have a direct link to the site? Instead, everything, even the "go" link seems to go through a filter, like this: http://www.drupalsites.net/links/goto/1144/1105/links_weblink

Doing it this way means there isn't as much incentive for site publishers to list themselves. All smart publishers list in DMOZ, mainly for the SEO benefit. And I bet that if you allowed direct links, you'd get a lot more submissions too. (Yes, some will be spammy, but you've got a nice voting system built in to help push those to the bottom.)

Would you consider making, for example, the screenshot in the teaser and the "go" button in the node into direct links?

drupalsites.net is not supposed to be a link farm or SEO tool. It is a showcase of nice Drupal powered sites where the quantity (read zillions of bluemarine / garland themed sites) is not the main target.

The redirect type links helps to get statistics for clicks. So we can build some views and blocks with the most active submissions. But please feel free to include any relevant direct links in your site description.

The statistics system and link functionality may be changed with migration to Drupal 6. But it will remain intact before that for sure.

Take a look at the External Link Popularity module for SEO friendly click statistics. It allows you to track clicks without using redirection.

Thanks a lot for pointing to seo friendly module. I'm a newbie in Drupal. Currently try to learn backend side of this cms.

i have to thank to sicjoy too for this info :)

This website is suppose to give an incentive for people to make submissions. Otherwise only a couple "graphic intense" websites will submit their stuff, simply for review. In addition, why would websites submit their links to this website if all it does is reveal to other users that it is a Drupal site (hence giving hackers a chance to know that a website is using drupal, which will minimize their search for the right exploits).

Hence I think that it would be nice of Drupalsites.net to fix its "top sites" area and to finally give websites some sort of SEO benefit. Otherwise why would someone do all the work? (Such as uploading a thumbnail, filling out forms, and registering etc).

The rules are made to be followed. i don't understand why some people always try to interfere with how a person runs their blog or site. They have the ultimate control, so we should accept it.

As for the links, I do understand why. A buddy of mine allowed links in comments and ended up having to shut down his blog because it got so out of hand.

Hope this helps
Andy

To what extent do you consider a site as an excessive adult, inflammatory or with abusive content?

I have a drupal powered website that is a spoof Irish website, in that it takes the piss out of the Irish. There can sometimes be a bit of bad lanugage but it's mostly written as pronounced (ie with an irish accent).

Would that be considered as offensive? Sometimes people do complain about it (rarely) and I am Irish myself.

thanks

Just try it. If there will be any complains the listing will be removed.

I understand that someone can put in a URL, but 1) how is Drupal version detected, and 2) how and how often is that data updated?

It's community powered. All the data is collected only via user submissions (unless some editors intervention in rare cases), including proper tagging / attribution to particular drupal version.

Some users may update their submissions with more current information time to time though. But it's the minority (about 5%).
